This white paper provides an analysis of five organizations that migrated enterprise applications from proprietary legacy systems to RHEL solutions. In each case, the organization's current system(s) had reached end of life from a hardware or application perspective. At these management decision inflection points, each organization decided to compare the cost and benefits of either staying the course with RISC platforms or migrating the existing legacy RISC-based servers to a RHEL x86-based solution. In all cases, the RHEL solutions were significantly less expensive than the legacy systems while supporting other business objectives such as improved business continuity and higher application performance.
